I happen to be board certified, as an indoor environmental consultant. I’m also certified as a mold remediator. What’s the difference between an indoor environmental professional and a mold remediator?
There is quite a bit actually. I just happen to be a unique breed that started as a mold remediator, didn’t like what a lot of the indoor environmental professionals were telling me, mostly due to lack of knowledge of the building envelope, building science and the were out there doing what we call pump jockeys.
They were just sucking air. And sending the results to a lab and that was about it. If anybody wants to do sampling and they only take 1,2,3 samples, you probably wanna stay away from them because you’re more likely gonna have a false positive or false negative.
You need enough analytical data to support the hypothesis of what you are trying prove or disprove, and using a third-party lab helps with that.
The sad thing about the science of testing is that you can take the same sample side-by-side get two different results or take those same samples and five different labs and get totally different reports as well. So it’s important to have an indoor environmental professional who understands the building sciences, building envelope, preferably their third-party accredited from the ACC American council credit certification, which is what I have, I’m certified as a certified environmental consultant. They have a lot of other certifications, but you have to have eight years experience with the one I have.
The benefit of having someone who understands mold remediation is doing the testing for you is we do a better job doing the testing for you. On the other hand, having us do mold remediation, since we know it takes to clear test.
We can do a better job. Is there a conflict of interest to have Company do both? Yes, preferably the company who does the mold remediation should be coming that tells you how wonderful you wanna have a third-party.
Can you use the same person in the initial testing and do the work because it’s the person did a good evaluation for you that you’re having work done to keeping an arms length of the third-party who’s telling you whether you have a pro or not it should be the same people who just did the work thank you
