We’d liked to share a little with you about asbestos and asbestos testing. Why do you have to worry about asbestos? Typically you don’t. If it’s in your home or building and it’s not disturbed, it’s a great material to have.

The minerals in asbestos are going to affect dearly, potentially, if you disturb them in anyway. If you’re planning a remodel, repair or renovation, you should be considering having asbestos done.

However, it’s odd, you as a homeowner, don’t need to worry about it. You should be wearing a mask, protective clothing, but there are no rules as to how you remove it, when you remove it and how you dispose of it.

However, for me a s professional, anytime your handyman removes your wall, your floor or ceiling, they should be testing for asbestos, because they are held to a higher degree of accountability.

And the rule, Southern California Air Quality Management District Rule 1403 states: if you are removing a wall or ceiling and disturbing it in such a way that the materials become fry-able, which is air borne, your suppose to test for asbestos.

And don’t kid yourself if you think it’s after 1985 or it’s a new remodel, or just rebuilt. It doesn’t have a date. It’s any material, of any wall, floor, ceiling, and no date.
